The roots of our distillery reach back to 1947. Ignaz Unterthurner, curious, courageous, ahead of his time, laid the cornerstone in Marlengo together with his wife Luise. In an era of upheaval, they dared to build their own distillery.
In the 1980s, son Alois and his wife Christine set out on new paths. Instead of following the common Williams pear, they turned their focus to berries and sparked our lasting passion for the raspberry. This decision marked the beginning of greater variety, more character, more depth in the glass.
Today, Stephan and Renate Unterthurner continue the story. In the third generation, with respect for what exists, and the courage to think further. The range has been reshaped, the design refined, the palette expanded: rum, vermouth, and barrel-aged distillates. New ideas meet old values. Our development lab is our creative space: experiments with raspberries, wild herbs or rare fruits become new worlds of distillation.
Where it all began
Everything begins with Ignaz Unterthurner. At the Bruggerhof of his step-parents in Marlengo, he learns the art of distilling from South Tyrolean farmers.
The birth of a distillery
Together with his wife Luise, Ignaz founds the first official distillery in Marlengo.
Unterthurner wins over the taverns
Little more than a decade later, Unterthurner distillates are found in nearly every inn between Merano and Bolzano.
A new generation, the same passion
Son Alois and his wife Christine take the helm, bring fresh ideas, and preserve the founders’ passion.
A milestone

A serious accident forces Alois to step back for years. Christine scales down operations to keep the family business alive.
The third generation shapes the future
The third generation takes over. Stephan Unterthurner, together with his wife Renate, modernises administration and storage, moving them into a new company building in Marlengo.
The cube takes form, the distillery expands
The second major expansion of Priami Manor: the striking cube is built, the distillery gains two new stills and additional storage for raw distillates.
The enotheque shines in new splendour
After 70 years, the enotheque moves from the cellar to the ground floor, welcoming guests in a bright, modern space.
A new dress, the same soul
The brand logo and design are renewed. Our ambition remains unchanged: quality born of passion, openness to innovation, and respect for nature.
